AYURVEDA

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an ancient holistic health system originating in India thousands of years ago which honours the mind, body and spirit. All of these three areas are intrinsically linked, meaning an imbalance in one will affect the other. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word meaning science or knowledge of life and its fundamental teachings are as relevant today as they were back then and are based on the premise that humans come from nature and from the universe, therefore our wellbeing and bodily rhythms are linked to nature.

Ayurveda truly embraces the individual, believing that each person is born with their very own “mind-body type” or constitution which is a combination of various qualities which combine into what we call doshas or energies- Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

According to Ayurveda, these three energies within us are based on the 5 elements of the universe. Vata consists of air and ether (space). Pitta consists of fire and water and Kapha consists of water and earth.

The “mind-body constitution” you are born with, called your Pakruti, is made up of the three energies of Vata, Pitta and Kapha in varying amounts which are unique to you.

Finding out your unique constitution helps you to understand and embrace your true nature and bring yourself back into balance in order to maintain harmony.

I am a fully qualified Ayurvedic Therapist which is one of the branches of Ayurveda.

What are Ayurvedic Therapies?

When energies within the body become blocked this de-harmonises the body eventually leading to disease. Ayurvedic therapies help detoxify and purify the body, stimulate the circulatory, lymphatic and nervous systems and boost the immune system. The therapies involve using warm herb infused oil to help unblock and cleanse the energy channels and energy points of the body. This helps to re-balance and revitalise the mind, body and spirit, improving mental and physical health, clear emotional blockages, increase energy levels and alleviate tension held within the body.

Ayurvedic Therapies are applied according to your specific imbalance & have a number of benefits including:

  • Clear physiological & energetic pathways
  • Detoxify & cleanse
  • Improve circulation & lymphatic flow to enhance the immune system
  • Increase vitality
  • Promote healthy skin
  • Reduce tension & stress
  • Create deep relaxation & general sense of well-being
  • Helps balance specific imbalances- Vata, Pitta & Kapha doshas (- see what is Ayurveda).
